How to resolve “Access Blocked” or “Authorization Error” with Google OAuth

Understand and resolve Google OAuth access issues by configuring admin permissions or adjusting account security settings.

Overview

If you encounter an “Access Blocked” or “Authorization Error” while using Google OAuth, it typically means a Google security setting is preventing the connection.


For Google Workspace Administrators (managing users or a company account)

If users see “This app is blocked”, the application must be explicitly trusted within your Google Admin Console.

Steps to Allow the App

  1. Go to the Google Admin Console.
  2. Navigate to:
    Security → Access and Data Control → API Controls
  3. Click Manage Third-Party App Access.
  4. Select Configure New App.
  5. Choose OAuth App Name or Client ID ().
  6. Search for the app or paste the Client ID

  7. Select the app and set access to Trusted.
  8. Confirm the policy applies to the correct Organizational Unit (OU) or group.

 

If the issue is not related to admin restrictions, it may be caused by Google’s Advanced Protection Program, which can block OAuth access.

Solution: Disable Advanced Protection Program

Note: You must be signed in to a trusted device. Changes can take up to 24 hours to fully apply.

Steps to Unenroll (Desktop or Mobile)

  1. Go to your Google Account Security Settings.
  2. Locate Advanced Protection Program.
  3. Click Unenroll.
  4. Follow the prompts to verify your identity and confirm.

Additional Notes

  • Allow up to 24 hours after making changes before retrying.
  • Ensure the correct account is being used during authentication.
  • Clearing browser cache and cookies may help resolve lingering issues.
